Nick O'Dwyer Player Profile

Track and Field is like no other sport. Not only is it one of the oldest sports still practiced today, it is one of the few sports that doesn't use a ball but instead consists of athletes running.

Nick O'Dwyer, a Junior at Olathe Northwest is one of the athletes that runs track.

O'Dwyer had an unconventional way of starting track. O'Dwyer didn't start running track just because he was interested but he also had some motivation from a friend.

"In 4th grade I had a bet with a friend that if he did football, I would do track," O'Dwyer said.

Since 4th grade O'Dwyer has come to fall in love with the sport continuing to participate in events like the 100 meter, 200 meter, and the 4x1.  O'Dwyer posted times like 11.5 seconds in the 100 and 23.5 seconds in the 200.

O'Dwyer does multiple activities to help get him ready for his upcoming event.

"I do a lot of stretching, then I will jog around the track 4 or 5 times, and then finish off stretching again," O'Dwyer said.

O'Dwyer has his own personal motivation to do well, but he also has motivation from a close family member, his mom.

"She used to run track in high school and she is very passionate about track, she would be my biggest motivator," O'Dwyer said.

O'Dwyer's self motivation comes from wanting to make state in track and the hope of continuing his track career after high school in college.

"I would like to run track at KU, and maybe Pitt State, or Wichita State," O'Dwyer said.

It is evident that O'Dwyer goes in to every meet wanting to perform at his best not for himself and his teammates. O'Dwyer has found a sport that he genuinely loves and will continue to play for as long as he can.
