Taylor Badowski and the lady Raven swim team

Swimming her way to state

The Lady Ravens swim team has ten qualifiers on their way to state at the end of May; one of those ladies being junior, Taylor Badowski.

Badowski has put in many hours of hard work for the team, swimming all three years she has been at Northwest, but her swim career started way before her days at ONW. Badowski started swimming back in first grade with swimming lessons but soon learned she loved the sport. During her middle school years, she became more serious and took to competitive swim.

"My favorite thing about swimming is its taught me so much. I've learned how to be more determined and the friends that I've made in the process are awesome," Badowski said.

The swim team's family like environment helps the team exponentially.
"We're pretty close-knit but we're also not afraid to yell at each other and get on each others backs if they're slacking."

Badowski has had a great relationship with the head coach Hank Krusen.

"He's my coach but he's honestly my friend. I love swimming for him because he knows what he's doing and he also knows what you're going through," Badowski said.

Along with Krusen, the team has welcomed a new assistant coach this year.
Last year at state, Taylor got fourth in her events: 200 IM and the 100 back. She hopes to beat her personal record this year by striving to be in the top three, along with hopes of breaking the 100 backstroke record for ONW.

"I'm really close to beating the school record, I'm less than a half second off. Breaking that would probably be my main goal for this season."

The Olathe Invitational helps the teams figure how they might do at state, with the same teams competing as there will be at the real state meet the weekend after the school year ends. With the help of Badowski, the lady Ravens placed third at the meet which gives them a favorable prospective placing at the state meet.

Badowski and the team compete this Saturday, May 9th in finals.
