Sunflower Softball Showdown

This past weekend, the Lady Raven softball team headed to their first tournament as a school team, going 4-0. This tournament held high school teams from all over Kansas and Missouri, which allowed ONW to play teams they don't normally play.

"Playing in this tournament was fun and it allowed us to get more wins vs out of conference teams" Hathaway said.

The first day the Ravens took on Blue Valley North and the Lansing Lions. ONW hit a total of 8 home runs, hit by Natalie Hamm, Mady Young, Kami Zimmerman, Reagan Hathaway, and Kaity Kukowski. Hathaway had 4 of those home runs and went 5 for 7 at the plate with 9 RBIs and 1 triple. She homered in 4 consecutive at bats, including a grand slam. The Ravens had a tremendous offensive day and ended up winning both games, beating Blue Valley North 14 to 4 and Lansing 17 to 3.

In the second and final day of the tournament, ONW took on Blue Valley Northwest and Blue Valley Southwest. The Ravens had a shutout and beat BVNW 10 to 0, with Aubree Herrin as the pitcher. In the last game of the tournament, ONW took on BVSW and beat them 8 to 4, making this their hardest and closest game. Although this was the only game, ONW played all 7 innings, but it still was no challenge for the Ravens. Hathaway got her 5th home run of the festival, making that 9 total for the Ravens on the weekend.

"Getting all these home runs gives us more self-assurance as a team," Hathaway said. "Beating all these teams gives us confidence going into the rest of the season because we are beating out of conference teams and we took care of the two teams we needed to beat."

Hathaway hopes for the rest of the season are to sweep Olathe North and Olathe South and to win to win the Sunflower League title so that they can host Regionals.
